When visiting Japan, these are our recommendations:

First, wander in Tokyo.

1. Experience the vibrant pulse of Tokyo

First things first, take in the electrifying energy of Tokyo, Japan’s capital. With its gigantic  skyscrapers, futuristic technology, and vibrant street culture, Tokyo is one of those cities that never sleep. Ultimately, take some time to wander through the vibrant streets of Shinjuku, where neon lights illuminate the night sky. Then, explore the trendy neighborhoods of Shibuya and Harajuku, known for their fashion-forward youth culture. For a change of scenery, don’t miss the chance to visit the historic Asakusa district, where the iconic Senso-ji Temple stands as one of Tokyo’s cultural heritage.

2. Eat your way in!

No trip to Japan is complete without tasting its world-renowned cuisine. Authentic sushi, sashimi, bowls of ramen, Tokyo is truly a culinary paradise. As foodies we love eating, which is why we wouldn’t miss the chance to please our taste buds at Tsukiji Fish Market, the largest seafood market in the world. While there, you can witness the vibrant auction of fresh catches and sample mouthwatering seafood delicacies. For a unique dining experience, venture into the narrow alleyways of Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku, lined with tiny eateries serving delicious Yakitori (grilled skewered chicken) and other local favorites.

3. Immerse yourself in Japanese traditions

Japan certainly deserves commendation, especially when it comes to its breathtaking landscapes. Here what you can do. Escape the urban bustle and discover Tokyo’s serene side. Stroll through the enchanting gardens of the Imperial Palace, where meticulously manicured landscapes and historic structures offer a glimpse into Japan’s imperial past. Experience the tranquility of Meiji Shrine, nestled within a dense forest in the heart of the city, and partake in a traditional tea ceremony to fully appreciate the art of Japanese hospitality.

Second, think of visiting Japan's ancient capital: Kyoto.

4. Step back in time!

Kyoto served as Japan’s capital from the year 794 to 1868 during the Heian period. As a former imperial capital, the city preserves centuries of tradition through well-preserved temples, shrines, and traditional architecture. This means that visiting the city is essential and highly recommended. Venture into Kyoto to meet the timeless elegance of its stunning traditional wooden houses and enchanting geisha districts. Begin your journey at Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, an iconic Zen Buddhist temple decorated with gold leaf that shimmers in the sunlight. Explore the ethereal beauty of Arashiyama, where you can stroll across the iconic bamboo groves and visit the breathtaking Tenryu-ji Temple.

5. Dive into the Heart of Japanese culture

It goes without saying, Kyoto is a treasure trove of cultural experiences. Attend a mesmerizing geisha performance in the historic Gion district, where geishas gracefully glide through the streets in vibrant kimonos. Discover the art of Zen meditation at the tranquil temples of Daitoku-ji and Ryoan-ji. Or simply gain insights into the ancient tea ceremony at the renowned Urasenke Tea School. If you want to go all in, participate in a traditional kimono dressing session and explore the streets of Kyoto dressed in their exquisite Japanese attire.

6. Walk through Cherry Blossoms splendors

If you have the opportunity to visit Japan in spring, seize it without hesitation. In spring, Kyoto’s cherry blossoms transform the city into a pink wonderland. Join the locals for Hanami (the flower-viewing ceremonies) parties in Maruyama Park or along the Philosopher’s Path, where you can picnic under the blooming Sakura trees. In autumn, Kyoto’s landscapes are coated with vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold as the maple leaves create a colorful spectacle. Take a stroll through Tofuku-ji Temple’s stunning autumn foliage or visit the picturesque Arashiyama Bamboo Grove for an unforgettable seasonal experience. I told you, it is definitely worth it!

Last but not least, consider visiting Japan's scenic wonders.

7. Swing by Japan's coastal landscapes

If you’ve geeked out on your Japan research, you’d know their coastal landscapes are like Mother Nature showing off her A-game – it’s basically her version of flexing at the beach! Japan’s coastline is an awe-inspiring natural beauty. During your stay in the country, journey to the northern region of Tohoku, where the dramatic cliffs of the Sanriku Coast offer panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Then, explore the mystical islands of Matsushima Bay, dotted with countless pine-clad islets. Further south, visit the scenic coastal town of Kamakura, known for its iconic Great Buddha statue and serene beaches that attract surfers and sun-seekers alike.

8. Seize the heights to contemplate lakes and mountains

Whether you are a nature enthusiasts or not, Japan will find a way to amaze you. Take as an example Mount Fuji, the symbol of Japan that stands as the country’s highest peak and offers breathtaking views from its summit. Imagine yourself there, spending days discovering the tranquility of the Five Lakes region surrounding Mount Fuji, where you can hike, take hot spring baths, and use your photography skills to capture snaps of one of the world’s most iconic views.
